Sales Director

Blavity is a venture-funded technology and new media company. We are changing the landscape of media representation by building the world’s largest digital community for Black Millennials.  Blavity was founded in 2014 around a simple idea: enable Black Millennials to tell their own stories.  Today, we average 1 Million monthly unique visitors, generate 7-10 Million monthly social impressions, and distribute our message across all major social media platforms.  We are based in Downtown LA with team members working across North America.

Blavity is seeking a top performing Sales Director to lead our Sales team. As Sales Director at Blavity, you will work with our sales team to consultatively sell Blavity services to advertisers and partners. Services include integrated marketing programs and branded content across desktop, mobile, video, social media, and live events.

Ideal candidates are adaptable, flexible, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.  They should demonstrate the ability to sell products and services to large brands and agencies across multiple industry verticals and should possess a passion for the topics covered by Blavity.

 

In this position, you will be responsible for managing a team of Business Development Managers to achieve quarterly and annual sales targets, provide direction for sales and product strategies, and developing strategic relationships with key client accounts. This role is based in Los Angeles and will require some travel.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 4-6 Blavity Business Development Managers to achieve annual and quarterly sales revenue goals across digital and experiential sales products
  • Personally, manage your own book of business for strategic accounts from new relationships with key brands and agencies
  • Prepare monthly sales reports, forecast and manage pipeline using CRM tools, and communicate clear reporting to senior management and executives
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues throughout Blavity marketing, engineering, programmatic advertising, and live events teams to create and sell comprehensive solutions across the entire Blavity ecosystem

Requirements

  • 5+ years of sales experience OR 3+ years of experience at top consulting firm, finance firm, or leadership team of a venture-backed start-up
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence
  • Deep knowledge and experience with digital media, online written and video publishing technology, and social media
  • Experience managing teams of 3-6 people in high turnover organizations
  • High proficiency with google email, google calendar, dropbox, slack, salesfore, powerpoint, excel, and digital management and communication tools
  • Naturally detail oriented, with an obsessive need to document and communicate findings
  • Independent, entrepreneurial, self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility
  • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture

 

The position begins in June 2017 and will be Full-Time, Los Angeles based. Will require some travel.
