Job Summary:
Blavity, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Accountant to join our Finance Team. The Project Accountant will be responsible for developing budgets and tracking actual costs for various events to ensure that best-in-class financial controls are in place throughout the lifecycle of each event. The successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable about all aspects of the events and collaborate with various cross-functional teams, including event operations, event marketing and people operations to track event costs against the annual budget to stay within the margin expectations. This role requires expertise in event budgeting, purchase orders, cost tracking, and financial reporting, with a strong focus on cost control measures to ensure actual event costs are delivered on or under the budget.
This role will report directly to the VP of Finance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed internal event budgets in collaboration with the Live Events team.
- Manage and track the itemized spending for the events with a heavy focus on real-time reporting of any material variances to the Finance and Executive teams.
- Collaborate with event coordinators, vendors, and project teams to ensure all expenses are accounted for and recorded in real-time. This includes sitting cross-functionally with the Live Events team and vendors with Blavity’s interests in mind.
- Research, implement, and maintain a new cost tracking budgeting tool specific to the Events Business, ensuring cost estimates are realistic and aligned with the scope of each project.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for each event, highlighting key financial metrics, budget performance, and variances.
- Provide regular updates to project managers and senior leadership regarding the financial status of ongoing events.
- Assist the Finance Team with various weekly, monthly and quarterly accounting tasks, including but not limited to, reconciliations, variance analysis & commentary and, financial reporting.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting is required.
- Required Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in finance and accounting, with experience in project accounting, event cost tracking, or similar roles.
- Experience with event management or large-scale project cost tracking is a plus.
- Additional Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency in a mid-market event or project planning tool. For example, EventPro, Cvent, etc.
- Advanced proficiency with MS-Office specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and cost tracking methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in the Live Events industry is preferred.
- A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture

- This is a fully remote, U.S.- based role.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Candidates must be available to work in alignment with the Pacific Time Zone.
- The annual salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000.
