What you will do... 

The full-time Full Stack Engineer contributes to the design, planning, and implementation of new features across Blavity’s digital media platforms. This position works collaboratively across the company to take features from idea, to mockup, to prototype, to responsive pages, to reusable component libraries.

The ideal candidate is/has been part of a technology start-up or digital media company, has experience launching product and developing code, and knowledge of unit testing or test driven development. Additionally, he/she is a technical expert, has great attention to detail, and works positively to collaborate.

This position is based out of Downtown LA and reports directly into the Engineer Manager. 

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Create designs and mockups for new features

  • Write clean, performant code in accordance with our team's code style guidelines

  • Work to improve and maintain the code health of all of our software

  • Participate in peer code reviews

  • Turn front end components into reusable component library

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Years of Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience
Education: preferred Code School certification or degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics or a related field.

Technology/System Requirements: 

  • Experience with Docker, SCSS, Rest APIs, GraphQL, ReactJS and React Native

  • Expert Javascript background with experience in NodeJS

  • Experience with WordPress and static site generators/flat file CMSes (Jekyll, Grav)m and templating engines (Mustache, Handlebars, Liquid, Twig or Jade)

  • A love for semantic HTML (experience with HTML5 APIs +2), responsive design and an understanding of usability and accessibility issues across all device types

  • Familiarity with Git, package managers (Npm) and build tools/task runners (Gulp, Grunt or Webpack)

  • Familiarity with Sketch or other wireframing tools
